Zoe's Herbs Project
Ervas da Zoé is a family, national and independent project, founded in 2007 by Maria do Rosário and Henrique.
It was born from his love for the rural world, especially the Beira Interior region, and from his fascination with aromatic plants, from all the traditional wisdom about their knowledge and use.
In addition to making a contribution to life in this desertified region, it was important to value the plant heritage, value traditions and popular wisdom, rescuing from disuse many herbs used for tea or cooking, also showing that aromatic herbs are much more than a medicine, They also provide pleasant moments and well-being.
This is the motivation that has driven us since 2007, the mission that we embrace with dedication, to produce a great diversity of species.
Aromatic and spicy herbs are the central axis of production, with organic certification, which in its broadest concept, includes ecological concerns, respect for Nature, the territory and its people seeking balance and harmony in the relationship with Mother Earth.
Currently, around 30 species are produced and 80 products resulting from their transformation are sold, following the project's guidelines: maintaining customs, wisdom, traditions but also giving space to creativity and innovation
The Team
Love for Nature, Joy, Friendship and Resilience.
The Ervas da Zoé team works with daily dedication and is committed to obtaining products with soul and absolutely genuine. He knows the different species well, their characteristics and needs, following their life cycle, which allows us to guarantee a superior quality of the final product. The plants are cared for and raised rigorously at every stage of the process: sowing, planting, harvesting, drying, storage and processing. Nothing is left to chance. It is a very demanding and challenging process, but with each campaign it fills us with pride in the final result and recognition from our clients.
Production
Since its creation, the Ervas da Zoé project has been concerned with minimizing the impact caused by its activity by basing its production on 3 pillars of sustainability and responsibility:
Social Responsibility - working with values of respect for Nature and Human Beings.
Environmental Sustainability – produce in an eco-conscious way, minimizing the impact on the environmental quality of the territory in which it operates.
Economic sustainability - part of the company's strategy is to seek a balance between economic sustainability and social, cultural values and preservation of plant and traditional heritage.
It is based on these commitments that Ervas da Zoé has charted a path of constant learning and adaptation, whether in attitude, production process or way of life.
Location
The Ervas da Zoé farm is located in the village of Ladoeiro, Idanha-a-Nova region, between the Naturtejo Geopark and the Tagus International Natural Park. The Naturtejo Geopark is part of the global Geoparks network and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is a region with authenticity and identity, far from large urban centers, where there is great wild biodiversity. The fauna and flora are of great richness and it is possible to smell the pine, rockrose, rosemary and rosemary found in the spontaneous vegetation, see wild animals such as rabbits, deer or foxes and observe countless insects and birds. This is a territory where the ecological and soil-climatic conditions are ideal for the production of sublime aromatic herbs, with intense aromas and flavors.
